Kosovo is among the most frequent destinations for our repatriations. The Kosovar community in Switzerland is large, and the wish to rest in the home country remains strong.
What sets this destination apart is not administrative but temporal: in a Muslim family the burial should follow as quickly as possible.
The core is that of any repatriation, with a few Kosovo-specific additions:
Both are used. By road, reckon on around twenty hours via Austria, Hungary and Serbia or North Macedonia; overall this is often faster, since there is no freight and no wait for a flight.
By air, connections to Pristina from Zurich or Basel are good, but funeral freight is not accepted on every flight and slots are limited in high season.
We compare both for each case and tell you which arrives first — not which suits us.
The diplomatic representation. Its opening days and legalisation time determine the departure date more than the transport does. We call on day one and request an expedited procedure where faith requires it — it is frequently granted.
Say so in the first call. We then prioritise legalisation, prepare the coffin in parallel and book the transport as soon as the consulate replies.
In favourable cases departure within 48 to 72 hours is achievable. We never promise it in advance: it depends on a third party whose calendar we do not control.
We agree the place and time of handover with the funeral firm or the family in Kosovo before departure. You receive written confirmation once the handover is done.
