Repatriation from Bern and the surrounding area

Our base is in Bolligen. That changes two or three things in practice.

We work across the whole of Switzerland, but our office is in Bolligen near Bern. For families in the region that brings practical advantages worth naming.

The first is geographical: the consulates are in Bern.

The consulates are on the doorstep

Almost all diplomatic missions in Switzerland sit in Bern. For a repatriation that is decisive: documents for legalisation can be handed in personally the same day rather than posted.

In practice that saves one to three days compared with a file run from Geneva or Ticino. We also know each mission's submission days and hours.

What is specific to canton Bern

  • the sealing of the zinc coffin must be confirmed under the cantonal protocol,
  • notification of the death goes through the competent civil registry — Bern-Mittelland for much of the region,
  • the transport permit is issued by the municipality of death, not the canton,
  • cemetery fees differ appreciably between the city of Bern and the surrounding municipalities.

Collection in the region

We collect in Bern, Bolligen, Ittigen, Ostermundigen, Köniz, Muri, Worb and the neighbouring municipalities, day and night, with our own vehicles.

Zurich airport is about two hours away; Basel-Mulhouse likewise. Both are used for funeral freight.

What that means for you

A contact fifteen minutes away, consulates twenty minutes away, and a file handed over in person rather than posted. Nothing spectacular — but it is what separates a four-day repatriation from a seven-day one.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Do you work outside canton Bern?

Yes, across the whole of Switzerland. Collection happens anywhere; only the journey enters the quote.

Can we come and see you?

Yes, by appointment in Bolligen. We are also glad to come to your home — many families prefer that.

Which airport do you use?

Depending on the destination and the connections available: Zurich most often, Basel-Mulhouse or Geneva as the case requires. We take whichever departs soonest.

Are timelines really shorter from Bern?

For the consular part, yes, because the missions are here. The rest of the file follows the same rules everywhere in Switzerland.
